Maree has been raising German Shepherds for over 17 years, and her passion shows in every moment — from daily trail hikes to quiet time spent bonding in the yard. At Southern Comfort Shepherds, we raise our German Shepherds with the same commitment, patience, and calm guidance Maree has given her nursing patients for 37 years. Our dogs are part of our daily life — hiking, training, relaxing, and living in a home filled with routine, affection, and structure.

We keep our breeding program intentionally small so we can personally raise every puppy with hands-on attention from birth to eight weeks. Because of this, we know each puppy’s personality, needs, and strengths before they go to their new homes. When families visit, they meet the parents, see where our dogs live, and watch how they move through their day.

Our foundation dogs come from proven DDR and Old-Fashioned lines chosen for stability, nerve, and clear-headed temperaments. True DDR bloodlines were developed in the former East Germany over a limited span of years, and only a small number of those lines remain today. We’re grateful to steward a piece of that history while raising steady, loving companions for today’s families.

Health and soundness are non-negotiable for us. Our AKC dogs are DNA verified, with OFA and/or PennHIP evaluations and DM-clear backgrounds. We pair rigorous health testing with a clean, stimulating environment, giving each puppy the best possible start in life. Our DDR Eastern German Shepherd puppies are usually reserved quickly. A phone call is required to join our waiting list for upcoming litters. A $500 deposit reserves your puppy once you’ve chosen your match.
